On the occasion of the celebration of Diego Velázquez's 425th birthday, the Royal Mint of Spain dedicates a collection of commemorative silver coins to the Spanish painter.

The obverse is a fragment of the work entitled 'Las Meninas', painted by Diego Velázquez in 1656, which is located in the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid.

On the back is a reproduction of the work entitled 'Mars', painted by Diego Velázquez around 1638, now in the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid.
